The owners

Maurizio and Alberico are the proprietors of the Villa Romana restaurant in Fareham. They bought the restaurant in 2000, and spent the last 6 years transforming it into one of the most acclaimed Italian restaurants in Hampshire. Between them they have over 40 years experience in the catering industry.

Maurizio, originally from Bologna in Italy, completed catering school in 1995. Once graduating, he went on to work in many high class restaurants and hotels in Italy, acquiring both the knowledge and high standards that was expected in these establishments. He then moved to England in 1998, where he managed various Italian restaurants along the South Coast, until purchasing the Villa Romana.

Alberico originated from Rome, and moved to England in 1984. After finishing catering school in Rome, he worked in many top restaurants in Newcastle, London and the South Coast before going into partnership and buying the Villa Romana.

Our philosophy is simple yet effective – we provide excellent food at sensible prices, and this combined with both our friendly and attentive service, make us one of the most enjoyable and successful restaurants in Hampshire. This philosophy has gained us recognition in many local newspapers, also attributing to the winning of the ‘Portsmouth News Small Business of the Year Award’

The Restaurant

Located in an 18th Century coach house on the High Street in Fareham, the restaurant benefits from immense character with oak beams and original brickwork, thus providing the ultimate setting when looking for a romantic evening.

The atmosphere is also complemented with our resident live singer, Arif Jamal, who covers a wide range of artists including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, among others. Arif, who appeared in ‘Stars in Your Eyes’ as Prince, will help to make your dining experience at the Villa Romana memorable.

In addition to the ground floor dining area, the restaurant also benefits from a spacious upstairs gallery, overlooking the ground floor and bar. This creates an ideal space to accommodate anything from a large celebratory party, to wedding receptions and even hosting business meetings.

The Food

Offering a variety of dishes from a selection of menu options the style of cookery is eclectic, and extensive use is made of fresh local produce with fresh fish being delivered daily.

Our vast a la carte menu changes seasonally, to incorporate both the best local produce available, combined with the finest ingredients imported from Italy. We try to balance the menus with a mix of the traditional and the new, the simple and the sophisticated, without compromising on the high standards and quality of the food.

This menu is also supplemented with a set menu available at lunchtimes only, which offers exceptional value for money and enables our customers to sample more of our fine dishes. This menu, which is changed regularly, is available for £14.95 for two courses, or £17.95 for three courses.

Our restaurant is extremely popular, and although we will try our best to accommodate you, it would be beneficial to call us for a reservation.

The Chefs

Stuart Munt graduated from catering college and spent a couple of years in Italy working alongside fine Italian chefs, acquiring the expertise needed to create authentic Italian cuisine. Vincenzo Ferreri originated from Sardinia and, after finishing catering school, he expanded his knowledge in various restaurants before coming to England in 2003.

This team, combined with the vast knowledge of Maurizio and Alberico, has lead to the ultimate success of this highly recommend Italian restaurant.
